One Room Challenge

After talking this over with my hubby, we are going to do the 6 week one room challenge! For my friends who are anxious to see us take over another room in our house, we have decided on the DINING ROOM!

Since I'm linking with other bloggers for this challenge, it may be your first time here. Welcome! We have a major entire DIY house renovation ahead of us and we're trying to knock out each room one at a time. This will give us a major push to get one of our main "living" spaces complete. I, for one, am so excited to see another pink space go!

Here's some before pictures.

And an "updated" pic. Look past my feet and into the next room :)

I don't really have a plan. The only thing I'm definite about is that we want to do wainscoting on the bottom - the mirrored frame look - and the top half we want dark grey grass cloth. Oh, and the one thing working in our favor is that the floors are already re-done and that window unit is in our miscellaneous house treasure graveyard. Did I mention there's no sheet rock behind that gorgeous faux marble wallpaper?

I think my mind is playing around with the end result have a little bit of this look. Probably with a bit more color.

Doesn't this next one remind you of the layout of our house? Well, the one you saw from my feet?

Our dining room is the middle man in between our living room and kitchen so it has to be a great room and not just a "pass-through" type room. I want it to be noticed and pretty and for it to have a little bit more pizzazz! I'm looking forward to the accountability, and hopefully encouragement! Follow along!

  1. Your inspiration pictures are great. A dining room is a great place to start. You will be done just in time for the Holiday's. Good luck and thanks for joining in.

  3. I am in love with the first inspiration picture on this post I think it would look lovely with the wainscoating added to it and a few pops of color!......That's my vote!
I love watching this transformation. Decorating and re-decorating are definitely my favorite things to do. I have definitely gotten some inspiration from your blog as you know, but I should tell you that I have currently taught myself how to sew via You Tube! Yes, I am serious, all the way from threading the machine to the finishing touches. This all happened in less than a day. By the end of day one, of first touching my mom's sewing machine, I had made rod pockets for two of the curtains for Georgia's nursery. (Drop cloth curtains, of course, compliments of this very inspirational blog!-Hehe) I am telling you this because it opens a whole new world of possiblities and I am very confident you would catch on just as fast seeing how crafty you are! I just went pick up my mom's machine (She has really no idea how to sew by the way, so no help there) and went to town! It is way more intimidating than anything because actually most of your time is spent measuring and ironing and then over to the machine for a quick straight stitch and Ta-dah! I will share pictures when they are done. Instead of painting I am adding about 14-16 inches of cream crushed velvet to the bottom with a cute off white tiny pom-pom trim to break the canvas and the velvet. Now there is another thought for another one of your rooms!

    1. If only I could zap that room right into my house, I'd be set! Oh my goodness, I can't believe you learned how to sew so easily!! That's incredible. But, I know that they do lots of awesome videos on You Tube - that's where Josh gets lots of his "expert" knowledge from! I cannot wait to see how your drop cloth curtains come out! And of course I can't wait to meet sweet Georgia!! Thanks for saying I'm an inspiration - that means a lot! :)

    1. Our living room is pink too :) Oddly enough, if the room isn't pink - it's head to toe wallpapered in some type of blue pattern. Thanks for following along and thanks for the sweet compliment!

  6. Eris girl...are you keeping that mirror? I'm obsessed!

  7. You have great inspirations here, Eris. But among all three, the first one is what I like more. Mirrors and windows do the trick in making a room look much bigger than the actual. And with those windows, it will not only look bigger, but brighter as well. Which design did you go for, by the way?
